Bobby Allison won the 1983 Winston Cup championship and 85 Cup races, fourth on the all-time list, including three Daytona 500s. His 1988 Daytona 500 victory, with son Davey finishing second, remains the only father-son one-two in the race's history. He was the patriarch of the Alabama Gang and a Hall of Famer.
Allison survived a near-fatal 1988 crash at Pocono that left him with brain injuries, and endured the unthinkable: losing sons Clifford (1992) and Davey (1993) in racing accidents. He died at his home in Mooresville in 2024 at 86, one of the last giants of NASCAR's golden age.
