Blaise Alexander was an ARCA star who twice finished runner-up in the series championship and was moving up to the Busch Series. The Pennsylvania native had a reputation as a clean, talented racer with a bright future.
In the final laps of an October 2001 ARCA race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Alexander's car hit the wall head-on after contact with Kerry Earnhardt – Earnhardt's car was the one that flipped – and he was killed at 25. His death, coming the same year as Dale Earnhardt's, helped push NASCAR to mandate the HANS device for all its national series.
