Tiny Lund

Driver Profiles

DeWayne 'Tiny' Lund – 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds – won the 1963 Daytona 500 driving for the Wood Brothers, just weeks after pulling fellow driver Marvin Panch from a burning car at Daytona, an act of heroism that earned him the Carnegie Medal for bravery.

Lund was killed in a multi-car crash at Talladega in 1975 at age 45. He remains one of the most beloved figures of his era, remembered as much for saving Panch's life as for anything he did behind the wheel.
