Tom Higgins, who died on July 31, 2018, covered NASCAR for the Charlotte Observer from 1964 to 1997. He was the first newspaper reporter to cover every race of a NASCAR season, a distinction that speaks to how completely he lived the sport he chronicled. In 2015 he received the Squier-Hall Award for NASCAR Media Excellence. His resting place is unrecorded.
