Tim Flock won two Grand National championships (1952, 1955) and 39 races, and was NASCAR's great showman – he once raced with a rhesus monkey named Jocko Flocko as his co-pilot until the monkey pulled the plug on his strategy. He was banned in 1961 for trying to unionize drivers with Curtis Turner.
Flock died of cancer in 1998 at 73. His flamboyance and talent made him one of the defining personalities of NASCAR's first decade.
